Primary:
At the primary level, English is the medium of instruction in most schools in Dubai. There are also many schools offering instruction in other foreign languages, such as French, Hindi, and Russian. A variety of foreign curricula are available, including the British National Curriculum and the Japanese system. Some schools require entrance tests for admission, and many reputable schools have long waiting lists.
The new term in most British schools in Dubai begins in September, while in other schools, it starts in April. Schools are closed for holidays in July and August. School uniforms generally resemble those in European and American schools. School hours are usually from 8 am to 2 pm, with two or three breaks. The average fee is approximately Dhs 3,000. The primary section typically spans six years, for ages 6 to 12 years.
Secondary:
Dubai has a large number of international high schools offering various curricula, including Indian CBSE and IGCSE. The school uniform is similar to that in primary education. Compulsory subjects generally include Maths, Social Studies, Physical Education, Religion, and Arabic. Students can choose additional subjects such as Science, Languages, Sociology, History, and Computer Studies, depending on the school’s education system. Private school fees can vary up to Dhs 25,000. The secondary school period usually lasts three years, for ages 12 to 18 years. Students receive a Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
Colleges and Universities in Dubai:
The number of colleges and universities in Dubai has significantly increased over the past 20 years, with annual growth in staff and student numbers of about 30%. Many institutions are affiliated with prestigious organizations abroad and use English as the language of instruction.
Postgraduate Education in Dubai:
Dubai’s universities offer various Master’s and PhD programs.
