Application Procedure

Intakes

To study in Germany, it’s important to know the intake periods. The primary intake offered by all universities is in September, with application deadlines ranging from 15th February to 31st May. A few universities also offer an intake in March, with deadlines from 15th November to the end of January.

Entry Requirements / Eligibility

Undergraduate Programs

  • 13 years of education is required (12 years of schooling plus 1 year at a university).
  • If not, students can opt for a 1-year foundation course or have 10 years of schooling plus 3 years of a diploma.
  • Language Requirements:
    • IELTS: 6.0 overall
    • TOEFL: 80 points (iBT)
    • German: B2 level proficiency

Master’s Programs

  • 15 or 16 years of education with a minimum of 75% marks or a GPA of 2.75.
  • Language Requirements:
    • IELTS: 6.5 overall
    • TOEFL: 85 points (iBT)
    • German: Up to 200 hours of study (A1 level)
  • GRE: Appearing for the GRE is acceptable, even if the score is pending.

MBA Programs

  • 15 or 16 years of education in relevant subjects.
  • Language Requirements:
    • IELTS: 6.5 overall
    • TOEFL: 85 points (iBT)
  • Work Experience: 2 to 3 years is preferred.
  • GMAT: A score of 550 is required for some programs, though many MBA programs in Germany do not require GMAT scores or work experience.

Visa

Documents Required:

  • Two Visa Application Forms: Both forms must be fully completed and signed, including your future residence address in Germany (question 15), as well as your full address with a phone number and email address in India.
  • Signed Declaration: A declaration confirming that all provided information is true and complete.
  • Three Passport Photos: Photos must meet biometric specifications.
  • Visa Fee: The fee must be paid via Demand Draft, made out to the “Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany” in New Delhi.
  • Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 12 months and must be accompanied by two copies of all printed pages.
  • Cover Letter: A letter from the applicant explaining the exact purpose and duration of their stay in Germany.
  • Letter of Admission: An official letter of admission from the German university.
  • Proof of Blocked Account: Proof that the study fees have been paid or, if not yet due, a statement showing that the required funds will be available to the applicant.
  • School Leaving Certificate: Certificate from Secondary School.
  • University Certificates: Copies of degree certificates and mark sheets.
  • Proof of Language Proficiency: Original TOEFL/IELTS scores and an A4-sized copy. Exemptions apply if the university provides a written waiver or for applicants pursuing PhD/Doctorate studies or those holding an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

What is the quality of education in Germany?

Is it compulsory to learn German to study in Germany?
No, it is not mandatory to learn German to study in Germany. Many programs are exclusively taught in English, so German language skills are not a requirement to begin your studies. However, universities often offer free German language courses, and learning German can give you an added advantage in the job market, especially if you plan to work for one of the approximately 700 German companies operating in India.

Is immigration possible in Germany?
Yes, Germany has had a new immigration law since 2002. As an international student, you will receive a study visa that allows you to work 90 full days or 180 half days per year. This work permission also applies to jobs outside the campus, unlike in some other countries. After graduation, you are allowed to stay in Germany for one year to focus on job hunting. Once you secure a job, you can apply for a permanent residence permit.
